Kamal Koroso

Kamal has kind of flown under the radar this season. After being a no show at the 3A District 2 meet a lot of people were left wondering, does Kamal still run? Indeed he does and he has had a few impressive out-of-season races to prove it.
HIs first race of the offseason was the AAU Cross Country National Championships. Kamal went out and as he has done in track the past few years, he completely blew away the field. Kamal ran a 16:06 for the 5k beating a very good Andres Arroyo by 15 seconds. To put things into perspective, Andres has run sub 15:30 multiple times throughout the season.
The other race Kamal participated and did well in was the USATF Jr. Olympics National Cross Country Championships. Kamal placed second in the intermediate boys 5k, losing by just 3 seconds to Parker Deuel of California.
With these two big performances we should expect to see some exciting things from this sophomore out of Terry Parker come track season. Kamal's biggest hurdle in track is to figure out how to run with Jimmy Clark and Elliot Clemente, both of these guys beat him in the 3200m at state and both just recently qualified for the most prestigious high school invitational around, Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals. Congrats on a great season Kamal, and good luck this spring.
